What's Up at the Library?
Are you preparing for the ACT or SAT tests? Maybe you want to change careers and need to take tests to get your real estate license or become a paramedic. Or maybe you just want to brush up on math skills.
You can do all of this and much more with the Learning Express Library, a new database on our web site under Research.
It has practice exams ranging from 4th-grade achievement tests to AP exams and college entrance tests. There are licensing and certification practice tests for 13 different careers, GED preparation and the citizenship test.
Tests offer instant scoring so you know immediately how well you did. In addition, there are courses to help you review and learn skills related to the tests.
The Learning Express Library is available to A. H. cardholders. Use from home or in the Library.

Three watercolor paintings of Chicago scenes, donated to the Library in memory of former volunteer and Friends of the Library president George Krueger, were dedicated at a recent event. The paintings by artist Sally Perfect Wallman were selected by the Friends of the Library Art Committee and are hanging above the foreign film DVDs on the first floor. Pictured are Krueger’s daughter, Christine; his wife, Irene and Friends’ president Allison Anderson. More event photos.
Want to know how to make the best use of Twitter? How about improving your digital photography or learning how to use Photoshop? You can do this and so much more online using our new Safari Select database. It contains over 400 technical books that you can read entirely online. There's no downloading or checking them out. More than one person can read them at a time, so they are always available. You can find Safari Select listed with our other databases under Research. You can use it from home or in the Library. If using from home, you will need an A.H. library card, or you can come into the Library and register for remote access at the Welcome Desk.
This was the scene at a recent program, Mousetrap Machine Show, as kids learned about levers and fulcrums and other science and math concepts using giant balloons. It is just one of many programs that kids are enjoying at the Library this summer. Come join the fun. Be sure to check out the exciting programs for kids this month.
