The Arlington Heights Memorial Library is strongly committed to protecting the privacy of its online users. The library is supported in protecting the privacy of its users by national and state-level laws, as well as the library's policy 4.001, Privacy and Confidentiality of Patron-Identifiable Records.

The Board of Library Trustees of the Arlington Heights Memorial Library seeks to provide and ensure a welcoming environment, including quiet areas for study and work, which is conducive to the appropriate use of the facilities and services.
We expect our patrons to treat all people and property with respect. This includes, but is not limited to:
Gallery & Display Case Policies & Procedures
The library provides opportunities to individuals, groups and non-commercial organizations to display materials temporarily in designated display cases and on a gallery wall within the facility. Such displays provide and encourage education and the exchange of information and ideas for Arlington Heights residents and organizations. Gallery and display case exhibits are available for the public display of governmental, civic, cultural, educational, recreational and public information.
Use of Conference Rooms
The Conference Rooms are provided primarily for use by as many as six persons for the purpose of group work or study. Patrons under the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult.
Arlington Heights residents may reserve a Conference Room up to one week in advance by contacting the Second Floor Reception Desk. One reservation per day per group may be made.
Computer Use Policy
The library provides a variety of computers and computing equipment for public use. Each type of equipment is subject to specific limits or conditions described in any conditions of use.
Computing equipment and software are chosen to support the computing needs of the broadest number of Arlington Heights residents, with an emphasis on security and reliability. The library strives to maintain its computer equipment and Internet access to ensure availability at all times.
Material Selection Policy
The public library plays a unique role in our democracy by providing a place where individuals can pursue their interests. Every citizen in a democracy has the right of equal access to public library resources. Adequate, free and impartial public library service is an indispensable part of every community.

Meeting Rooms - Public Usage
As an institution of education for democratic living, the Library welcomes the use of its meeting rooms for civic, cultural, educational and public information meetings of groups based in Arlington Heights, or groups which have a significant number of Arlington Heights participants. Library activities and functions have priority in bookings. Meeting rooms are not available to for-profit groups or businesses. Meeting rooms are available to groups regardless of the beliefs and affiliations of their members.
Internet Access
The First Amendment of the United States Constitution protects the rights of citizens from governmental intrusion into what they see, hear, view and read. It also applies to people accessing content on the Internet. With the exception of the Kids’ World public computers, the library’s public computers do not have filtering software.
Using Email Notification at AHML
The Library is committed to maintaining the highest privacy standards for its patrons. Your email address will be used only as a means of communicating with you regarding your account.
Using Online Services from Home - Remote Access Service
Most of the Library's online services can be used outside the Library. Services marked with an asterisk (*) are available in the Library only.
- Library card holders are automatically registered to use our online services.
- When requested to do so, just enter your AHML library card barcode and your last name as a password.
- Be sure to keep your library card current because your access expires when your library card expires.
- Arlington Heights residents who do not have a library card must obtain one in person at the Checkout Desk. You will need to bring two forms of identification with your current Arlington Heights address.
