Friesner was called the "First Lady of Funny Fantasy" by Booklist, and although there is quite a bit of humor here, I also found these stories to be rather touching. Two of the stories in this collection are Nebula Award winners. I liked that they are very traditional fantasy stories set in contemporary times.

The 30 articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights are each celebrated by some of the most talented authors of our time in this riveting anthology published by Amnesty International. With a foreword by Archbishop Desmond Tutu, and contributions by writers are varied as Paulo Coelho, Henning Mankell and Banana Yoshimoto, there is something here for every reader. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is sixty years old, but it is as relevant today as when it was drawn up.

These are like Twitter short stories. They are all 25 words or less. There are some high profile writers included, like Joyce Carol Oates, Ha Jin, and J.A. Konrath, but there are also many talented emerging writers contributing as well.

In a time of cultural tension, it is more important than ever to read works by authors with varied experiences and backgrounds. Aside from containing some very good short stories that are enjoyable in their own right, this collection also contains a wealth of insight into a world quite different from our own.
