When Julia finds an unexpected package of homemade Amish Friendship Bread on her doorstep she is not sure what to do.  Included is a note that says, "I hope you enjoy it" and instructions on how to make the bread and instructions to pass on a bag of starter dough to three other people.   Julia fulfills this request and passes it on. . . soon everyone in Avalon is baking Friendship Bread.  As it makes its way through town the reader learns about life, love, friendship and the community.
