Fall is a great time to read about those fun-loving, pesky, and yes, even scaredy squirrels. Here are a few good titles to start with:

“Once upon a time there were three dinosaurs and a poorly supervised little girl named Goldilocks.” Wait, that’s not how the story goes! Check out Mo Willems' latest book and hilarious version of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. In this book, Goldilocks eats pudding, not porridge, and the three dinosaurs, not bears, are “definitely not hiding in the woods waiting for an unsuspecting kid." Both parents and kids will enjoy this laugh-out-loud story where the first chair is “Too tall,” the second chair is “Too tall,” and the third chair is, “TOO TALL!”

Recently, many of you have come in looking for realistic fiction for your first school reading assignment but are not really sure what it is. Realistic fiction is a story that could really happen. That means no magic wands or talking animals or fairies that appear and disappear. It can be funny or sad. It can be full of action or thoughtful. If you are in need of a suggestion, give us a call or drop by the desk for some ideas. We love to help!

My name is Nugget and there’s nothing I love more than a good story. That’s why I can’t wait for the next sessions of Paws to Read! Paws to Read is a fun library program where I get to listen to kids read aloud. Did you know that reading aloud to a dog can help improve your reading skills? What a great way to practice! Need to read a book assigned by your school this summer? Kids' World has booklists from many schools. We also try to pull the books and place them on a cart near the Summer Reading display. If you're wondering if we have your book contact us. If it's available, we'll put it downstairs at the drive-up. Hope to hear from you!

This summer, our Junior Library volunteers have been working on additions to the Kids World web site. Check out the videos they made using the apps DoodleCast and Puppet Pals on iPads. Each video is an excerpt from one of our summer reading books. They have also been working on podcasts in the Studio where they talk about their top picks for the summer.
