Adult literacy classes are sponsored by District 214’s READ TO LEARN Literacy/Volunteer program for English-speaking adults who are learning to read and/or developing reading skills. There’s no advanced registration. Participants must attend the first meeting date where they will be tested and then notified if they qualify for the class. Classes are free. However, there is a donation request of $10 for materials.

This holiday season give the gift of reading by donating new children’s books for our holiday book drive. The books will go to low-income families in our area through the Wheeling Township Adopt-a-Family holiday basket program. We are collecting new books for children from infancy to age 16. As always, books in Spanish are also welcome. Drop off your donation in the collection bins by the Checkout Desk. For more information, call Debora Whisler at 847-506-2613.
Bring your young readers to the Library to read to a librarian. After reading a story of their choice, they will receive a Polaroid snapshot and a magnetic "I Can Read" picture frame donated by the Friends of the Library. There's no registration, just stop by the Kids' World Desk at the following times:
