The new genealogy room is now open for research! Volunteers have returned to help you locate the information you need. Computers, a copier, and microfilm reader/printers are also available. Come see our new home. Where is it now? The Kathrine Shackley Room for Local History and Genealogy is located on the first floor at the north end of the library. The genealogy collection has a temporary home on the first floor. It is located in the center of the library behind the magazines and newspapers and will be here during the remodeling period. Funeral and cemetery records are important and very challenging to our family research. Tim Kowalski, a licensed funeral director, will discuss these records Saturday, August 25 at 10 am. Register online or call 847-392-0100. Following the program will be a New Orleans style Jazz funeral with a live band. Come join the "second line" through the library! ...and see how they made the coffin.

It's done! It took only four months to completely index the 1940 US Federal census. Now you can search by name. Here in the library, go to Ancestry Library Edition from the database list and start searching for your ancestors!

If your ancestors spoke French and came from France, Belgium, Luxembourg, or Quebec, research help is available. The genealogy volunteer on duty every Thursday evening has Belgium/France heritage and can help you with your research or even translate a document. She is regularly there from 7 - 9pm, but please call ahead to make sure she is on duty. Merci!
