Portable Swing

I've just realized that I seem to like posting about swings. So why break the cycle! The UpSwing, a simple portable swing that comes with the ropes and hooks you need to setup a playground anywhere you want. As long as you have a sturdy object above you, you can hang the UpSwing on it. I would love to go to a park in the summer and relax on this thing underneath a tree!

Google's Project Glass

People have been talking about Google's latest concept, Project Glass. The glasses basically have the same functions as a smart phone, like look up information, use social networks, etc. One of the biggest discussions is, would anyone actually wear these goofy looking things? If it ever gets off the ground I'd be interested to see how they work in the real world. Check out the video demonstration below.

Louder Than A Bomb

louder_than_a_bomb_blog.jpg

Have you heard about this movie?

It's an award winning documentary about the world’s largest teen slam poetry competition known as "Louder Than a Bomb."  Every year, more than 600 teenagers from over 60 Chicago-area schools take part in the slam.  This movie follows four of the slam teams - Whitney Young, Oak Park/River Forest, Northside College Prep, and Steinmetz as they prepare for the 2008 event.

We are screening the film on Friday, April 13 at 7pm in the Hendrickson Room for middle and high school students.  Afterwards, you can perform your own poetry or listen to others share theirs.

Watch the trailer, register for the event, and we'll see you on the 13th!

Blind Man Drives Google Car

With 95% of his vision gone, the man in this video, Steve, is beyond being considered legally blind, and he's driving a car. Google's self driving car, first announced in 2010, is a technological wonder. The car has already clocked 200,000 miles by using a series of cameras and a scanning laser to determine it's route. All you have to do is tell the car your destination it and will plot a route for you, taking into consideration speed limits and traffic patterns. Watch as Steve takes a trip out for some Taco Bell.
