Event Description

The Many Meanings of Meilan by Andrea Wang

Read The Many Meanings of Meilan and join us for a very special book discussion where we will be joined virtually by the author, Andrea Wang!

Meilan Hua’s world is made up of a few key ingredients: her family’s beloved matriarch, Nainai; the bakery her parents, aunts, and uncles own and run in Boston’s Chinatown; and the Chinese fairy tales Meilan loves. But after Nainai passes away and a fairy tale goes wrong, Meilan’s family sells the bakery and moves to a small town in Ohio that could not be any more different from the city Meilan loved. To make matters worse, she is forced to take a new name at school and left wondering who she is now. Will Meilan be able to show her true self when an injustice occurs at school? Pick up a copy of the book at the Kids’ World desk starting November 1.
