Raised in a decaying old Pennsylvania mansion and homeschooled by their drunken professor father, Josie and Jack Raeburn have never had anyone but each other to depend on. Their father's alternating fits of rage and neglect make life on the Hill increasingly impossible. The siblings flee the only world they've ever known, first to Erie, then onto New York City, with Jack leaving a trail of intensifying violence in his wake and Josie just trying to survive. Josie has to decide: can she remain in her beloved brother's increasingly destructive world, or does her future depend on escaping his grasp? And will he ever let her go?
