Picking up your requested items just got easier with the addition of a new and convenient pick-up location. The Arlington Heights Memorial Library’s 24/7 Hold Pickup Lockers provide access to library holds at any time of day, any day of the week.

The lockers were generously funded by Gallagher Insurance through a donation to the Arlington Heights Memorial Library Foundation.

Placing Holds

How do the lockers work? 

  1. When placing a hold on an item in the library’s catalog, choose “24/7 Hold Lockers” as the location for your item pick up. Choose “24/7 Hold Lockers – ADA" for an accessible locker pick-up experience. 
  2. When your item is ready, you will be notified via email to come pick up your item. 
  3. Pick up your item at the 24/7 Hold Pickup Lockers within three days of notification. You will need to scan your library card or input your library card number to pick up your item at the lockers.

How does picking up a locker hold work? 

  1. Select “Checkout” on the locker’s touch screen and scan your library card or input your library card number using the keypad.
  2. Once you’ve entered your library card information, select “Accept.” The item(s) being checked out will turn green on the screen, and the locker door with your item(s) will pop open.
  3. Collect your item(s), close the locker door and follow the prompt on the screen to take your receipt. Select "Finish" when complete. The item(s) will be automatically checked out to your library card.

Where can I park?

Parking, including accessible spots, is available near the lockers. 

Who do I contact if I have an issue with a locker?

Visit the Circulation Desk or call 847-392-0100 during library open hours. After-hours librarians are offsite and can provide limited assistance via online chat at ahml.info.

What are the locker hours?

Items can be picked up 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

Who can use the lockers?

The lockers are for Arlington Heights cardholders only. 

How long will items be held in a locker?

Items are held for three full days. 

Can items be returned to the lockers?

Currently, items cannot be returned at the lockers. Nearby material drops are: 

  • Outside the library’s main entrance on Dunton Avenue (Available 24/7) 
  • Drive-up material drop located in the northeast corner of the garage (Available 24/7) 
  • Inside the library’s core entrance in the garage (Available during library open hours) 
Can any item be requested at the lockers?

Customers can request any item except for items in the Library of Things collection and interlibrary loans. Due to size restrictions, other large items may be restricted as well. Holds requested for locker pickup that are unable to fit will be moved to the drive-up window. 

Are accessible lockers available?

Yes, there is an option to select an ADA-accessible locker pick-up experience when placing a hold. There is also an option to enlarge the touch screen buttons when using the locker. 

Why did the library get lockers?

To provide convenient access to library materials any time of day, any day of the week. 

Where are the lockers located?

In the library’s parking garage, outside the sliding doors on the north side of the garage level entrance. 

What do I need to bring with me to pick up my items?

All you need is your library card or you can input your library card number to pick up your item.

How are my items checked out?

Once you scan your library and remove the items from the locker, the items are automatically checked out to your account. You will not need to scan the individual item barcodes. 

What is the max height of the lockers?

The max height is 72 inches from the ground and 48 inches from the ground for an ADA locker.
