Career criminal John Luther lives an intense and dangerous double life. On the surface, he is a normal, happily married man. Below the surface, he is a roving professional at grand larceny and armed robbery. He is different than most of his kind though. Luther is plagued by a violent recurring nightmare. During the nightmare, he is a different person in a different era and suffering a horrible fate.
