NOTES

Following a miscarriage at the hands of her abusive fiancé, Julie, a 29-year-old school teacher with a passion for wine, disregards the advice of her family and friends by inviting her new boyfriend, Peter, a recently separated father of two, on a wine tasting adventure to the vineyards of Southern France, a trip "ordered" by her doctor. As the couple explores the famous Chinon, Bordeaux, and Saint-Émilion wine regions, Peter's estranged wife, Nicole, intrudes through a series of urgent messages imploring him to come home to take care of their sons. These interferences trigger Julie's relationship fears and, as the trip unfolds, fuel her concerns about Peter not wanting more children, something she desperately desires. Still, their connection deepens as they discover the intertwined worlds of love and wine. In the process, they must overcome self-inflicted misfortune involving an open window and a cooked, expensive bottle of wine, as well as navigate a series of outrageous interactions involving a sexist tour guide with a wandering hand, an irate money-collector who makes a dramatic appearance in the early morning hours, and a charismatic wine sage who guides them on an internal journey before selling them a second bottle of wine. On their last night in France, as Julie prepares for a romantic evening, Nicole shows up unannounced and discloses she has cancer. Peter, shell-shocked, prioritizes his sons' needs and ultimately follows his estranged wife back to Montréal, leaving Julie alone with a shattered heart in the City of Light. With her heart in pieces, Julie returns home alone, only to discover she is pregnant
