NOTES

Saved as a Painting is a riveting novel about the unexpected re-emergence of the long-lost portrait of Kata, the pillar of a Jewish Hungarian family, and its effect on her descendants and the writer Noa, who got fascinated by the story. The book is the account of a Kata's family; the history of three generations who live through the volatility and turmoil of the 20th century, between Budapest and Novi Sad, Tel-Aviv and New York. In the center of the plot stands a remarkable woman, and her portrait, painted by a famous Hungarian artist. The story of Noa takes place in Tel Aviv of 2010. The woman writer just returned to Israel after living in the US, where she got acquainted with the chronicle of Kata and her family. Noa decides to tell this story; she finds herself captivated by Kata's character and dissuaded by it at the same time, and while struggling with her writing she has many questions and doubts. Saved as a Painting is Noa's resolution to her turbulent life, friendships, and loves via the dialog with her own past and an insight into the yearnings of a mystifying woman of another time and another continent
