NOTES

A middle aged, middle-class couple are spending a holiday in Cornwall. The husband wakes on the beach after lunch, to find his wife has, disappeared. It is totally out of character and, for a while, he is puzzled, but not too worried. This is the beginning of twenty-three days of torment and fear for him as he involves the police and tries to discover exactly what has happened to his staid, schoolmistress's wife. It is also the beginning of twenty-three days for his wife, Jannah, as she flings her cap over a windmill and goes off to an uncertain future
