A Vancouver native, Duane Lawrence enjoys regular walks in beautiful Stanley Park. It was during one leisurely stroll that he decided to write about the animals that live there. He has previously written two chapter books for children in the primary grades; Sammy Squirrel & Rodney Raccoon: A Stanley Park Tale and Sammy Squirrel & Rodney Raccoon: To the Rescue. Often asked by younger readers if they could "see the pictures in colour," Lawrence asked illustrator Gordon Clover for help and this simpler colour-picture book version was created for pre-school children who are just beginning to read
