NOTES

Dorothea's husband, Raif, goes off to fight in World War 2 and after a heated argument tells her he isn't coming back. She decides to leave their townhouse in London and makes her way to Blythe Wood, the family home in Somerset, taking her housekeeper Grace and young maid Daisy with her. Her two sisters, Iris and Megan, soon turn up on her doorstep, fleeing the blitz and destitution. She takes in four evacuee children, endeavouring to educate them and to help shape their lives. Over time, she comes to love them dearly and the very thought of having to hand them back once the war is over tugs at her heartstrings. As the reality of the war takes hold, the fight to survive becomes more and more difficult. Will they all survive and will Dorothea ever see her husband Raif again?
