Spurned by Jake, the love of her life, Jessica contemplates walking into the the water at Trinity Beach (in Far North Queensland) to drown herself, when she is jolted back by someone crossing into her line of vision. The diversion leads her to an encounter with a couple, tourists from Italy, Davide and Gabriella, and their company lightens her mood. Later that night, she reflects on the men she has had in her life and we see her experiences with them through backstories.On her return to Melbourne, she finally discovers why Jake has been treating her so cruelly. She embarks on a journey overseas to put some distance between her and Jake, while she decides on her future. Whilst travelling throughout Nova Scotia and on to New York City, she has to deal with the dilemma of Jake contacting her to profess his love and desire to reunite. As the story progresses we are taken on a roller-coaster ride, as Jessica deals with Jake's vacillation and her desire to be free of his thrall. A uniquely visual story that sees our protagonist experience many journeys: physically, emotionally, and metaphorically. A story of romance which lurches from pathos to comedy, this tale of love in later life is interspersed with tasteful erotica.
