NOTES

In interview, the author, Dominique Scali, said the following: "What is unique about the western genre, unlike historical novels set during other periods in history, is that at this time people could create their own myths about the life they had lived. And so the western echoes our own time when social networks are used to create a certain level of myth about our personal and professional life." Asked about violence and firearms as it was used to impose law in the west, Scali responded: "This is not a comment from Quebec on gun culture. It is a demonstration of the fascination within Quebec for a world where the code of conduct is completely different. It looks to us that stardom is possible in the United States, and that looks attractive to us. But the violence? Not so much. The western genre offers total freedom to create a world but within a moral vacuum."
