Candy Cotton owns and operates Candy's Cafe, a successful restaurant in Whitlow, NC. Life is good until Paul Garner moves into the apartment on the second floor of her building. Paul Garner moved to Whitlow to be near his brother who is married to Candy's best friend. For some reason, Candy felt an instant dislike of him at the wedding. Hopefully, his moving upstairs will allow them to discover some common ground on which to build and amicable friendship. But that does not happen. Sparks fly, arguments rage, and tensions flare. Nothing seems to work until Paul saves Candy from an armed robber Paul and Candy finally become friends and eventually business partners in a bakery and catering service. Everything seems to be going well until Candy finds out that Paul has been keeping secret the fact that he owns her building. Hurt and anger cause Candy to lash out and drive Paul away. Through prayer and honest self-reflection, Candy begins to change her life, but will that be enough to regain Paul's friendship and possibly his affection
