The Invisible Man helped establish H. G. Wells's reputation as the father of science fiction. Griffin, a scientist devoted to research into optics, devises a way to make himself invisible but is unable to reverse his condition. Griffin arrives in the small English village of Iping, West Sussex, where he further attempts to undo the experiment. Completely covered in clothing and wrappings, the stranger is mysterious, sullen, and reclusive. Local townspeople soon regard him with suspicion. As Griffin descends into madness and finds himself short of money, a burglary take place.
