Born in Jamaica in 1887, Marcus Garvey rose to become a towering figure of Pan-Africanism and one of the 20th century’s greatest mass leaders. Bringing a powerful message of Black pride and empowerment to the U.S. during the Harlem Renaissance (1918-1930s), Garvey’s influence reached across the globe. Though he died in 1940, his teachings continue to inspire social movements, from civil rights to Black Lives Matter. In AFRICAN REDEMPTION: THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF MARCUS GARVEY, director Roy T. Anderson explores Garvey’s enduring impact, with narration by Emmy Award-winner Keith David
