Moving from the city to the country has always involved challenges, and for Mikaela Gordon, the new teacher in town, the challenges seem enormous. Not only does she need to learn many new things about the farming way of life, she is confronted with a crotchety principal at school and an irritating young farmer who has no doubt that she will fail miserably in her endeavours to fit in. Eventually Mikaela begins to discover joy in her new surroundings, but just as she is starting to find her feet, she stumbles upon a dark secret that rips at the very heart of the community and threatens to destroy the lives and loves of those around her, putting her faith to the test again
