For years, Andrew Mayford operated flatboats on the Mississippi, but when he was presented with the opportunity to pilot the first steamboat, the New Orleans, from Pittsburgh to New Orleans, he was skeptical, but Nicholas and Lydia Roosevelt's vision convinced him that he embarking on a history-making adventure. However, once the trip began, his whole world-view was shaken. not just the changes in the landscape caused by the New Madrid earthquake, but also his desire to remain an unattached bachelor. Cygnet Brown (1959-) Born in Northwestern Pennsylvania, began writing stories in seventh-grade English class. She wanted to become a professional writer, but life got in the way. After graduating high school, she served active-duty Navy from 1981-1987 as a Neuro-psychiatric Technician then in the reserves until 1999. She married, became a mother to three children, step mother to another, She returned to writing in October 2008 when she fell in love with her characters all over again. With this renewed passion, she wrote her first book in The Locket Saga: When God Turned His Head. In 2012 she published her second book of the series Soldiers Don't Cry. Her third book, a nonfiction book is aptly named Simply Gardening. Her next book, Book III of the Locket Saga: A Coward's Solace came out in August 2016. In December 2015 she came out with two booklets: Help from Kelp and Using Diatomaceous earth Around the House and Yard. She then continued the Locket Saga series with A Coward's Solace; Sailing Under the Black Flag, In the Shadow of the Mill Pond, The Anvil, and now Two Rivers. She has also written several other nonfiction books: Write a Book and Ignite Your Business;Living Today, The Power of Now; Gourmet Weeds; Oregon County, Wild and Scenic; and this spring, a contemporary romance: Because of Ryan.She taught as a substitute in Springfield, and West Plains, Missouri before retiring in 2022.C
