A short story:The Inheritance is the second story in a mini-series of three short mysteries introducing ex-soldier turned private detective, Mark Kent. He becomes embroiled in a web of international business deals and family relationships where people do whatever it takes for money and success.Along the way Kent struggles to adjust to civilian life and with feelings of alienation in a changing society where he meets the losers of financial power and the new owners of wealth. In The Inheritance, Kent is hired by Olivia Campbell to find her missing diamond necklace. His investigation leads to her son, John Campbell, who is a struggling businessman harangued by his doting mother and taunted by the memory of his nagging wife. As Campbell's companies continue to fail he ventures into a deal with Chinese businessmen, and ends up fighting for his life…(PLEASE NOTE: All three mysteries are also available in one book, Gentlemen's Agreement and Other Stories) S.A. Aslam was born and lives in England and has a background in news and business journalism. All her books are written in British English.Gentlemen's Agreement and Other Stories is a mini series of three short mysteries involving private detective Mark Kent. Two of these stories are also available individually.Gentlemen's Agreement is about international deals involving a Russian tycoon and property agents using their own own means - sometimes tragic, sometimes vindictive - to cope in a changing society.Blackmail focuses how a family's reputation and finances face ruin from scheming young woman also struggling to escape from her own money problems. The Inheritance tells of a young man who ends up fighting for survival when he becomes embroiled in human trafficking as he tries to prove himself to his family. Two further stories stand alone:The Window is about an innocent bystander who unexpectedly witnesses a right-wing demonstration and hides in a terror reminiscent of a totalitarian state and mob hunter violence.Lost Property is a short story of black humour about a bored and staid public sector worker whose chance meeting with an older 'good-time' woman changes his perspective of life.S.A. Aslam hopes to publish her first novella in the coming months. You can follow her on X @SA_Aslam_
