Trinity College Dublin students Frances and Bobby have been friends since high school. At one of the university poetry evenings, they meet Melissa, a famous photographer, and later with her husband Nick, an actor. Despite the fact that Nick and Melissa are much older than Bobby and Frances, friendly relations develop between them. All four spend a lot of time together, mostly talking - discussing art, literature, politics, sex, friendship and, of course, each other. Francis begins an affair with Nick.
