Discover Naval History Like Never Before in Donald Yates' New Book: The Life of the USS Lexington: CV-16Acclaimed military historian and U.S. Army veteran Donald Yates returns with another powerful and visually engaging tribute to American history in his latest book, The Life of the USS Lexington: CV-16. Known for his extensive work capturing the essence of military service and sacrifice, Yates now turns his focus to one of the most storied aircraft carriers in U.S. Navy history-the legendary USS Lexington, affectionately known as "The Blue Ghost." Born in Germany while his father served in the U.S. military, Donald Yates was raised in Middle Tennessee and went on to serve 20 years in the United States Army. His career in uniform took him across the globe, including deployments and duty assignments in Germany, Korea, and Iraq, as well as stateside postings at Fort Ord, Fort Campbell, and Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM). He is especially proud to have served briefly with the storied 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) during his time in Iraq (2003-2004).An advocate for lifelong learning, Yates holds multiple academic degrees. He earned an Associate of Arts in General Studies from the University of Maryland, a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science with Cum Laude honors from Washington State University, and a Master of Arts in Communications from Austin Peay State University. His military service, combined with a strong academic foundation, has shaped his interests in history, leadership, and communication. Now retired from active duty, Yates devotes his time to writing, historical research, and spending time with his family. He is married and the proud father of two sons-one of whom has also honorably served in the U.S. Army, continuing the family legacy of military service. His life and career reflect a deep commitment to service, education, and country. Oh, Yates has also written over 50 books in the military history Genre
