The great dog, whose life and habits are portrayed in this book, has been represented, for the past three years by the Journal known as Pit Bull Fancier. Money was not the object in view then, nor now, when we are striving to place the greatest breed of dogs known to mankind on that pedestal of fame upon which is has a just claim. And gentlemen, notice, also, the names and performances of the great dogs of the past. Most of them have now gone to that place where good dogs go, but boys they were not quitters. They lost their lives in gameness. Nor did they show a yellow streak. Many of them, when their master said, 'Go on, old boy, you will win', have shown such a degree of loyalty scarcely equaled by the sons of men
