NOTES

The spiritual condition of the Corinthians was not commendable. Yet, Paul writes them a letter of edification not condemnation. He tells them to stop sinning and stop approving sin. He wants believers to rejoice in the grace and love of the Lord Jesus Christ. They are to fellowship in the blessings of the Holy Spirit. Believers are representatives of Christ. They must not tarnish the image of Christ. Their reputation in the community is important. Presently, God is taking believers through the process of sanctification. "The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together" (Rom. 8:16-17). Our struggles, trials, and tribulations on earth are part of God separating us from the world. We suffer like Christ while on earth to be glorified with Him for eternity!
