NOTES

Psychotherapy has almost been eliminated, especially long-term treatment. The totalitarians abhor the idea that an individual can rediscover their free mind and self (the billionaires can't afford it, besides, people might question being herded into mindless puppetry.) It has always been verboten to hold the mother accountable in the origin of mental illness (its tantamount to blasphemy). Frieda Fromm-Reichmann,M.D., however, was quite cor rect when her clinical work at Chestnut Lodge led to her finding that in schizophrenia the cause is the schizophrenogenic mother, a consequence of both control and rejection. These emotional problems are not genetic but learned and carried along generation to genera tion. To absolve the mother of responsibility, some claim it really isn't the mother, it's the "sick family". They say "what about all the sexual abuse perpetrated by fathers, doesn't that cause mental illness?" The Bureau of Census and related studies show, however, that 85% of emotionally disturbed children come from fatherless families, that is biologically fatherless. Sexual abuse by men that happen to merely live with the mother are not biologic fathers. The power of the disturbed mother over the small child was recognized by the ancient Greeks in the symbolic form of Medusa who could turn others into stone. The classic symptom of schizophrenia is the stoney "flat affect"
