Book Synopsis Title: "Haze" Author: Tim Kane OVERVIEW: "Haze - The Scoops of Newspaper Reporter Harry Webber" follows an investigation led by a nearly burnt-out journalist in a small New England industrial city where a rebellious fraternity is pitted against the realities of a freak death, college president obsessed with major campus expansion, and dirty mobsters. SYNOPSIS: "Haze" opens featuring the now banned pledging antics of an outcast off-campus college fraternity. Pledge Chad Montgomery accidentally dies at the hands of his future brothers out in the woods one night during a freak hazing incident. The always conflicting fraternity President Doug Fairbanks and Pledgemaster Frank Patterson, advised by their pesky know-it-all law student brother Neil Tuttle, feel devastated but quickly concoct plans to conceal the death forever. Little do they know their coverup - made possible by two naive brothers who agree to act as independent witnesses of Chad's death - isn't the only plot brewing. Chad's death occurs on campus property and is quickly covered up by Brineburg State College President Herbert Peabody, and his gangster brother, Lucky. Peabody, a classic narcissist blinded by power, is obsessed with a massive $350 million planned campus expansion while Lucky stems to profit illegally off the project
