NOTES

Read by Scott Paige, Rachael Endrizzi

Maaijke, a young Dutch woman, born in 1815 in Spakenburg, vividly imagines herself into other places and times, but when her concentration lapses, she is transported back to her home and to the time from which she came. On one of her travels, she falls in love with Peter, a U.S. Navy pilot and Vietnam veteran. After an intense but brief affair, her focus flags and Peter, unaware of her abilities and why she disappeared, mourns her absence. Five years later, Peter finds Maaijke again who tells him they have a son. And as before, she suddenly disappears. Peter, twice devastated by her vanishing, gradually buries his pain over several years, aided by his immersion in his career, and by Celia with whom he falls in love. When the two women meet, Celia insists that Maaijke is part of a hoax while Peter unearths information suggesting that Maaijke may be a relative
