NOTES

Chloe Swanson was so lost in Tristan that she was blind to his obvious red flags. She just kept telling herself that if she did better, he would love her better. Chloe just wasn't successful enough, strong enough, or smart enough so she was punished for it. In her daily life Chloe goes from carefree and hardworking to avoiding people and hiding the bruises and scars left behind by her beloved boyfriend. Her friend starts to notice that something is off with Chloe when she becomes distanced and timid. It is not until Chloe fails out of college and becomes isolated from her family, friends and self that she finally musters the courage to leave Tristan. On her journey back home to Colorado Chloe thinks she is finally going to get her life back. What she doesn't realize is that Tristan has other plans for his girl Chloe, and that's when things go from bad to worse. Chloe breaks down in the Utah wilderness and finds herself being stalked for days and then kidnapped by Tristan and his brother. The brothers bring Chloe to their childhood home where Chloe is tortured in ways even her worst nightmares couldn't conjure up. Chloe is faced with a choice; Fight and escape or be killed. If she survives, will she be able to deal with whom the torture has turned her into? Chloe tries once to escape and is chased down and brought back into that horrible room that Tristan keeps her locked up in. She feels defeated and wants to give up. She can't handle the abuse and mortifying situations Tristan, and his family put her through. Only Tristan's youngest brother Travis seems different from the rest of this family. On her second attempt at escaping Chloe kills Tristan and runs away, Travis leads her on the path to the police station before his family finds out that he helped their captive escape. She runs into the station seeking help from the police. Turns out the officer she finds isn't her savior. He drags her back to Tristan's house where she witnesses more violence. Travis and his mother are livid at Travis for helping Chloe escape. Heartbreakingly, Chloe witnesses Travis being beaten to the brink of death by his older brother than dragged out to the garage where he is then killed. Once real help finally arrives Chloe is rescued and looked after by officer Vic Theron, who feels a kinship with her. Vic has endured abuse as a child and feels a connection with Chloe and wants to be there by her side to help her cope and heal. Chloe relies on both Vic and her best friend Nevaeh on the long road to her recovery. Recovery proves to be harder said than done. Chloe longs to become the person she used to be once again, but she faces the hard reality that her experiences have forever shaped her. She will never be the same. Instead, she focuses on healing and becoming a person that she can be proud of
