Culinary Curiosity

October 4, 2019 – January 5, 2020

Culinary Curiosity was a collaborative exhibition by Arlington Heights Memorial Library, Aurora Public Library, Gail Borden Public Library District and Schaumburg Township District Library. This exhibit was made possible by the Kendall College Trust, with the generous support of the Friends of the Library. Items in the exhibit belonged to the personal collection of food industry veterans Mel and Janet Mickevic. They were displayed publicly for the first time through this partnership.

The original exhibition at Kendall College included over 250 objects which were organized in the displays according to food preparation techniques—mixing, roasting, forming and so on.

At the Arlington Heights Memorial Library, over 50 artifacts in seven display cases as well as two historic stoves were on display. The topics highlighted were Hearth to Cookstove, A Tasting Menu, Appetizers and Amuse-Bouches, with a Mudge Sterilizer and Steam Cookers showcased in vitrines. Videos excerpted from the original exhibit webpage were featured on iPads next to correlating items and cases, inviting visitors to learn more about the cooking tools and processes. An interactive station, At the Table, prompted visitors to share stories or memories about different meals in the day. Learn More
