About the Arlington Heights Memorial Library Foundation

The Arlington Heights Memorial Library Foundation is a not-for-profit, 501 (c)(3) tax-exempt organization that provides support to the library by securing and managing donations from individuals, businesses and foundations to support the library above and beyond what public funding provides. Established in 2018, and governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, the Foundation was instrumental in the 2021 opening of the library's new makerspace building, the Makerplace located at 112 N. Belmont Avenue in Arlington Heights. The Foundation raised more than $150,000 in monetary and in-kind donations to help fund the Makerplace including a commercial kitchen which serves as an educational space for culinary literacy and learning.

The Foundation continues to provide financial support for special projects including the establishment and funding of the Scholarship for the Trades in 2023. This is the first time the organization is awarding scholarships and the support aligns with the Foundation's mission to pursue "financing and in-kind services to supplement the library so additional avenues of learning can be achieved."

"It's one thing to create a viable space like the Makerplace, but another to actually take those opportunities and help educate a workforce for the future," said Lauree Harp, founder and chair of the AHML Foundation.
