Event Description

Juneteenth commemorates the day the last enslaved people were emancipated in the United States on June 19, 1865. Come join us while we celebrate the ongoing work towards freedom and equality by discussing the book The Sweetness of Water by Nathan Harris. This debut novel weaves together equal parts beauty and the stark terror of truth and reality in the depiction of a war-torn Georgian town during the violent aftermath of the Civil War into the Reconstruction era. Through this unforgettable story topics of discussion will include race, the aftermath of slavery and what it means to be free.

To request disability accommodations, please contact us at 847-392-0100 or accessibility@ahml.info prior to the event.
