Event Description

In 1963, at the height of the Civil Rights Movement, the Loyola Ramblers of Chicago broke racial barriers and changed college basketball forever. Now, nearly 60 years later, this legendary team is reexamined by Loyola basketball player and co-captain Lucas Williamson. With archival footage and modern-day interviews, this captivating story continues to provide inspiration in the fight for equality.

Join us to celebrate this historic moment in college sports history with a film screening followed by a facilitated discussion with Chuck Wood, member of Loyola's 1963 NCAA championship team, and Jim O'Donnell, sports & media columnist for the Daily Herald.

Chuck Wood was the sixth man on Loyola's iconic 1963 NCAA championship team and is in the Loyola Rambler's Hall of Fame.

Jim O'Donnell is a nationally award-winning sports & media columnist for the Daily Herald. He has also had full-time turns with the Sun-Times and Frank Deford's National Sports Daily. His fourth-grade class said an extra morning prayer that "Loyola would win the basketball championship" the Friday before the 1963 Final Four.
